The Staples Wreckers will look to defend their home court on Monday against the St. Bernard Saints at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Staples didn't have too much trouble with McMahon at home as they won 67-52. Given Staples' advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while McMahon is ranked 117th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Staples found their leader in underclassman Sam Clachko, who scored 26 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Mason Tobias was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, St. Bernard came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Norwich Free Academy as St. Bernard made off with a 72-52 win. St. Bernard has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 20 points or more this season.
The victory makes it two in a row for Staples and bumps their season record up to 5-1. As for St. Bernard, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Staples came up short against St. Bernard in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 63-50. Will Staples have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
