Westview and the Bryan Bears will round out the year against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at. Westview is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Westview struggled with assists on Tuesday (Papillion-LaVista South had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. The game between the pair wasn't particularly close, with Westview falling 72-54. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Papillion-LaVista South is ranked eighth).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kobe Mapp, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tzyon Patterson, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Bryan ultimately got the result they hoped for last Saturday. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 68-66 win from a begrudging Bearssquad. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
A'mare Bynum continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. The game was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. Rylan Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Westview's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Bryan, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Westview have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.4 threes per game. It's a different story for Bryan, though, as they've been averaging only 8.8 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Westview ended up a good deal behind Bryan in their previous matchup on December 4th, losing 66-49. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bynum, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. Now that Westview knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
