Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Augustine Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Megan Callahan, who posted 20 points in addition to six assists and five steals. Callahan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Lourdes Gamez was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine steals and eight rebounds.
Benson got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They blew past Santa Rita 60-11 on Thursday. The Bobcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 23 points or more this season.
Benson's win came from a few key players St. Augustine Catholic will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Aubrey Moon, who earned 11 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadalyn De La Cruz, who scored eight points and three steals.
Benson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 19 consecutive contests.
St. Augustine Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Benson, their win bumped their record up to 12-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: St. Augustine Catholic has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Benson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 40.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
