Division I recap Oct. 3, 2012
Barrington was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in Division I. The Eagles vanquished East Providence 35-15 earlier in the week.
Cranston East extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Central Falls, 40-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Thunderbolts.
Portsmouth's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chavous Bobby threw for 219 and three touchdowns and Matt Greenman had 104 yards receiving. On the ground Austin Szczepaniak chipped in 144 yards. Sean Tullson helped Portsmouth's passing attack out by catching six balls for 76 yards.
The Patriots' Bobby and Greenman have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Bobby has thrown for 882 yards this season, while Greenman, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 13 catches for 348 yards. La Salle Academy's Josh Morris leads the league in rushing yards with 527.
The marquee game in Division I this week will be the clash between Cranston West and Bishop Hendricken. The Falcons enters the game ranked 11th in the state, while the Hawks ranks second.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Cranston East takes on the Townies. Thomas Centore's team's offense has racked up 169 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while East Providence has allowed only 159 on the year.
The Thunderbolts took down the Warriors 40-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. ALEX CORVESE threw for 95 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 63 yards in the win.
