The Wiggins Tigers lost against the Merino Rams back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Wiggins fell to Merino 48-42. While losing is never fun, Wiggins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while Merino is ranked 21st).
Wiggins got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Marcus Steinbar and
Jr Meyer, who each put up no points.
Wiggins has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Merino, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.
Wiggins will be playing in front of their home fans against Briggsdale at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Allowing an average of 53.8 points per game, Briggsdale has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this match. Merino won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Genoa-Hugo/Karval at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Genoa-Hugo/Karval focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
