Football Game Preview: Templeton Eagles vs. Santa Maria Saints

For the first time this season, Templeton will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to take on the Santa Maria Saints at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Templeton has four straight wins, Santa Maria has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Templeton was able to grind out a solid victory over Atascadero, taking the game 31-20.

Templeton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyler Cunningham out in front who rushed for 159 yards and one score, and also picked up 35 receiving yards. That's the most rushing yards Cunningham has posted since back in October of 2024. Colby Sims was another key pass catcher, picking up 108 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Templeton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Will Capaci, Sims, and Cameron Stevens picked up one apiece. Sims got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Santa Maria fell victim to Santa Ynez and their airtight defense on Friday. They were dealt a 41-0 loss at the hands of the Pirates. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Saints haven't been shut out since back in August.

Santa Maria's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Templeton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Templeton didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Santa Maria in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 21-17 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
