2A-1 Region III District 12 recap October 22, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region III District 12 this week, Godley beat Palmer 41-10. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Wildcats.
Godley moved up to 314 from 340 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Randy Brawner's team was able to move up by topping the Bulldogs 41-10.
Whitney's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brett Gilchrist threw for 284 and 4 touchdowns and Kelton Mansfield had 83 yards receiving. On the ground Mansfield chipped in 129 yards. Randy Cantwell helped Whitney's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 76 yards.
He was 16-23 with 0 interceptions.
Mansfield was the best wideout in the league this week as the Wildcats topped Maypearl. Mansfield racked up 3 receptions for 83 yards. Cantwell helped Whitney's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 76 yards.
Whitney's Gilchrist and Cole Brunett have formed a dream team this season, leading 2A-1 Region III District 12 in both passing and receiving yards. Gilchrist has thrown for 2,354 yards this season, while Brunett has 52 catches for 907 yards. KAINE BLAKE from Life Red Oak leads the league in rushing with 1,159 yards.
Grandview's Jordan Martinez needs only 50 yards against Palmer next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 114 carries Martinez has put up 950 yards this year.
So far this year, he has garnered 52 catches for 907 yards.
The Zebras are currently in second, while Duke Dalton's team is in third.
The Mustangs lost to Grandview 47-3 last week, the largest margin of any game. TRACY HIGHTOWER was a bright spot for Life Red Oak, as he in the defeat.
