The Howard Lions will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Winters Mill Falcons at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Howard will be strutting in after a victory while Winters Mill will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Atholton scored an imposing 62 points last Friday, Howard still came out on top. It was close, but Howard ultimately received the gift of a 64-62 victory from a begrudging Lionssquad.
Meanwhile, Winters Mill pushed their score all the way to 60 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were dealt a 92-60 loss at the hands of River Hill. While losing is never fun, Winters Mill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while River Hill is ranked 16th).
Howard pushed their record up to 2-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points per game. As for Winters Mill, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Everything came up roses for Howard against Winters Mill in their previous matchup back in December of 2019 as the squad secured a 74-28 win. Will Howard repeat their success, or does Winters Mill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
