The St. Paul Indians will head out to challenge the Baxter Springs Lions on Monday. St. Paul will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
St. Paul is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since October 15, 2024 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Uniontown 2-1.
St. Paul had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 13-25, 25-16, 25-17.
St. Paul can attribute much of their success to Ava Dent, who had two aces and one block, and Kaydra Mathis, who had eight kills, four aces, and one block.
They weren't the only good servers: St. Paul was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Baxter Springs hadn't done well against Humboldt recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Lions came out on top against the Cubs by a score of 2-0.
While Baxter Springs might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Humboldt scored at least 20 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-20.
St. Paul's record now sits at 6-15. As for Baxter Springs, their record is now 17-8.
St. Paul came up short against Baxter Springs when the teams last played back in September of 2024, falling 2-0. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
