The Piedmont Academy Cougars struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Gatewood Gators had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Piedmont Academy took a serious blow against the Gators, falling 84-52. Piedmont Academy has struggled against the Gators recently, as their contest on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Corbett Crews and Camden Moss certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Crews almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, while Moss scored 12 points. Crews is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last five games he's played.
Gatewood found their leader in underclassman Matt Allen, who shot 11-for-20 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 47 points and nine steals. Allen is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 19 every time he's taken the court this season. Blake Callaway was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 16 rebounds.
Piedmont Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-20. As for Gatewood, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedmont Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Buccaneers at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. As for Gatewood, they will head out on the road to challenge the Cavaliers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Augusta Prep Day's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups.
