Riverside is 0-3 against Taylor since February of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Riverside Argonauts will host the Taylor Titans at 7:00 p.m. Riverside will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Last Tuesday, Riverside got the win against Traders Point Christian by a conclusive 58-37. The Argonauts have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Riverside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brayden Torgrimson led the charge by going 7 of 10 en route to 18 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bini Hopper, who posted 11 points and five steals.
Riverside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Taylor hadn't done well against Western recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, Taylor made off with a 50-49 victory over Western. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Titans.
Riverside better focus on containing Drey Mcclatchey and Javionne Harris as the pair were huge in Taylor's win. Mcclatchey went 9 for 14 on his way to 23 points, while Harris dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Mcclatchey is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Christian Hall, who had six points and seven steals.
Riverside's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35 points. As for Taylor, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Riverside has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Taylor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Riverside might still be hurting after the 71-48 loss they got from Taylor in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Will Riverside have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
