Triad is a perfect 4-0 against Urbana since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cardinals will host the Hillclimbers at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with 12 defeats in a row, Triad turned things around against Greenon on Friday. They never let the Knights get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The Cardinals' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
JJ Roberts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Smith, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Russell House was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Urbana had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They came out on top against the Arrows by a score of 6-3.
Kevin Endres spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Colton Lafferty was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronnie Weimer, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Urbana's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Triad, their win bumped their record up to 2-12-1.
Triad beat Urbana 10-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Hillclimbers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
