The West Point-Beemer Cadets struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Fort Calhoun Pioneers had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. West Point-Beemer was dealt a 66-32 loss at the hands of Fort Calhoun. While losing is never fun, West Point-Beemer can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Fort Calhoun is ranked 20th).
West Point-Beemer's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colten Haber, who scored seven points along with three steals. Haber also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Blaize Brockman, who scored nine points.
Grayson Bouwman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fort Calhoun, scoring 23 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Bouwman has scored at least 25% of Fort Calhoun's points. Adam Elofson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
West Point-Beemer's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-7. As for Fort Calhoun, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
West Point-Beemer will head out on the road to face off against Lyons-Decatur Northeast at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Fort Calhoun, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder at 7:30 p.m.
