Softball Game Preview: Highland Scots vs. Frontier Titans

For the second straight game, Highland will face off against Frontier. The Scots will head out on the road to take on the Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last five games Highland has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Wednesday, Highland needed a bit of extra time to put away Frontier. They had just enough and edged out the Titans 10-9. Highland's victory was all the more impressive since the Titans were averaging only 3.45 runs allowed on the season.

Lilliana Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching nine innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. Garcia was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Madelyn Gonzalez and Kamilla Baltazar did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Baltazar went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles Baltazar has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Rodriquez, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Highland has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6-2 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.25 runs across that stretch. As for Frontier, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.

Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Highland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Frontier struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
