The Mater Dei Monarchs put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past El Camino 84-55 on the road. Fans of Mater Dei have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
It was another big night for Owen Verna, who scored 25 points along with 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Mater Dei's points. Another player making a difference was Brannon Martinsen, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Mater Dei's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for El Camino, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Mater Dei will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Long Island Lutheran at 9:00 p.m. on December 15th. Long Island Lutheran presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mater Dei in the nation (Long Island Lutheran is ranked first in New York, while Mater Dei is ranked 47th in California). As for El Camino, they will head out on the road to face off against La Jolla Country Day at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
