The Reno Huskies waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Douglas by a score of 72-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Reno's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Harvey Smerdon, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Aidan Casey, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Douglas' loss came despite strong showings from Jett Lehmann and Trace Estes. Lehmann scored 15 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds, while Estes dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Estes scored 15 or more points. Jeremiah Pitts was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Reno is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Douglas, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-15.
Reno will be playing at home against Carson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Carson is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Douglas, they will head out on the road to take on Bishop Manogue at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Bishop Manogue focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
