There's no place like home for the Monroe Golden Tornadoes, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They took down Carver 67-53 on Tuesday. That's another feather in the cap for Monroe, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Justin Burns was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks. He is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last 13 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquan Maddox, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tony Montgomery, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Montgomery is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jakobe Caslin, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Monroe's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5. As for Carver, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-3.
Monroe will head out on the road to challenge Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Columbus has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Carver, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Dougherty at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Georgia (Dougherty is ranked 46th, while Carver is ranked 59th).
