Baseball Game Preview: South Granville Vikings vs. Southern Alamance Patriots

The South Granville Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Southern Alamance Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with South Granville sitting on three straight victories and Southern Alamance on seven.

Southern Alamance's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: South Granville hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. South Granville was the clear victor by a 14-0 margin over Durham School of the Arts on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won three contests by 13 runs or more so far this season.

Cooper Wilkins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. South Granville is undefeated when Wilkins posts eight or more strikeouts, but 1-5 otherwise. Wilkins was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Evan Olson-Thornburg was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of South Granville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Samuel Fuller, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.

South Granville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Southern Alamance was able to grind out a solid win over Williams on Friday, taking the game 6-3.

Southern Alamance's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for South Granville, their record is now 4-5.
