The LaCrosse Leopards will head out on the road to face off against the Pawnee Heights Tigers at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (LaCrosse has nine straight victories, Pawnee Heights has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, LaCrosse didn't have too much trouble with Central Plains at home as they won 45-29.
LaCrosse got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gage Burk out in front who scored 14 points along with three steals. Burk is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Caden Morgan, who scored nine points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Pawnee Heights was beaten by Hodgeman County 66-29 on Monday. While losing is never fun, Pawnee Heights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while Hodgeman County is ranked 139th).
LaCrosse's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. As for Pawnee Heights, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
LaCrosse came out on top in a nail-biter against Pawnee Heights in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, sneaking past 69-66. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Pawnee Heights' Alec Carlson, who scored 41 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for LaCrosse to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
