The Wesley Chapel Wildcats will take on the Springstead Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Wesley Chapel sitting on three straight victories and Springstead on four.
Last Friday, Wesley Chapel had just enough and edged out Osceola 3-2.
Mills Carrillo made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Chase Flemming looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Nolan Hartley was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Springstead beat Citrus 11-7 on Friday. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly four runs.
Nathaniel Sabino and Andrew Ward did most of the damage at the plate: Sabino scored two runs while going 3-for-5, while Ward scored a run while going 3-for-5. What's more, Sabino posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Williams, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Wesley Chapel's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Springstead, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Wesley Chapel came out on top in a nail-biter against Springstead in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, sneaking past 7-6. Does Wesley Chapel have another victory up their sleeve, or will Springstead turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
