The Umatilla Bulldogs came tearing into Tuesday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 66-57 win over Lake Weir. Given Umatilla's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while Lake Weir is ranked 450th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Umatilla got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Herly Brutus out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Brutus is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jalen Pressley, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Umatilla has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. As for Lake Weir, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Umatilla will face off against Belleview at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Weir won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against South Sumter at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th.
