McAlester is 0-5 against the Chargers since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The McAlester Buffaloes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Memorial Chargers at 7:30 p.m. McAlester has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 4.
McAlester pushed their score all the way to 62 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Coweta 67-62. While losing is never fun, McAlester can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while the Tigers are ranked 157th).
Memorial has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 54-41 to Will Rogers College on Tuesday.
Despite the defeat, Memorial saw an underclassman step up: Fabian Harris scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalil Cotton, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and two blocks.
McAlester's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-12. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Memorial, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-6 record this season.
McAlester was dealt a bruising 70-33 loss at the hands of the Chargers when the teams last played back in November of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point McAlester was down 39-16.
