After a string of three wins, the Anthony Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 60-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fabens. Anthony was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Fabens apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Anthony lost, one person who can't be blamed is Julie Cuellar. Despite the final result, she scored 38 points. The matchup was Cuellar's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aissa Castillo, who scored 13 points.
Anthony's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 7-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.8 points per game. As for Fabens, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Anthony will face off against San Elizario at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fabens, they will head out on the road to face off against Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
