Baseball Recap: James River Midlothian Wins Going Away Against Powhatan

James River Midlothian barely beat Powhatan the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rapids were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Indians on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Rapids, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Garnett Power and Jayden Grant made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Power pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Grant pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Power went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Grant went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Grant a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Harris, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Schumacher, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

James River Midlothian has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Powhatan, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-5.

James River Midlothian and Powhatan should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Rapids (ranked 85th) will meet Prince George (ranked 201st) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Powhatan will face off against L.C. Bird at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (64 vs. 319).
