Hondo and Lytle are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but likely not for long. The Owls will host the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hondo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Hondo came out on top against Crystal City on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Owls put the hurt on the Javelinas with a sharp 14-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Owls in their matchups with the Javelinas: they've now won four in a row.

The team relied heavily on Myia Lathe, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Xevi Hernandez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Hondo lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Lytle came up short against Dilley on Tuesday and fell 8-3. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mikailah Mejia made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Lytle's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8-2. As for Hondo, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hondo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Lytle struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hondo was able to grind out a solid victory over Lytle when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 13-8. Will the Owls repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
