St. Thomas More Academy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Thales Academy Apex, who comes in off a win.
Last Wednesday, Thales Academy Apex earned a 41-29 victory over Cary Academy. Given Thales Academy Apex's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while Cary Academy is ranked 373rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Thales Academy Apex got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Anna Maass out in front who scored 18 points along with nine steals. Maass hasn't dropped below 15points for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Julia Bandholz, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and six steals.
Meanwhile, St. Thomas More Academy came up short against St. Mary's on Thursday and fell 46-39.
St. Thomas More Academy's loss came about despite a quality game from Enora Boutrand, who scored 15 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Adella Dehring, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Thales Academy Apex pushed their record up to 14-4 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24.67 points. As for St. Thomas More Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Thales Academy Apex have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 19.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. Thomas More Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 25.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Thales Academy Apex's way against St. Thomas More Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as Thales Academy Apex made off with a 44-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Thales Academy Apex since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
