The West Catholic Falcons will take on the Wayland Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Friday, West Catholic needed a bit of extra time to put away Sparta. They beat the Spartans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-4. The win was nothing new for the Falcons as they're now sitting on four straight.
West Catholic got a great performance from Elliott Plum as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Plum has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, West Catholic let David Britenfeld and Aidan Taylor run wild. Britenfeld went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Taylor went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave Taylor a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Holt, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Wayland had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Lowell 11-10. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their two-run performance the game before.
Wayland's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Ritsma, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Ritsma has become a key player for the Wildcats: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-14 otherwise. Logan Byrne was another, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
West Catholic's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Wayland, their win bumped their record up to 12-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. West Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wayland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
