Baseball Recap: Armstrong's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Armstrong had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 7-11 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Burrell Bucs with a sharp 18-12 victory. The River Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Garrett Brumbaugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Armstrong is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-10 otherwise. Brumbaugh was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carson Delano, who went 2-for-5 with five stolen bases, four runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Armstrong: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Hunter Reed, who went 3-for-6 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Burrell, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7. They have struggled against Armstrong recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

On Burrell's side, Bryce Hrivnak made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Armstrong and Burrell could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The River Hawks will square off against Indiana at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (309 vs. 7). The timing isn't great for Armstrong: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while the Little Indians have snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road. Meanwhile, Burrell (ranked 315th) will meet Shady Side Academy (ranked 67th) at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
