The Laurel Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 63-29 loss at the hands of St. Charles. While losing is never fun, Laurel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while St. Charles is ranked 21st).
It was another big night for McKenzie Thomas, who scored 36 points along with five steals for St. Charles. That makes it four consecutive games in which Thomas has scored at least 25% of St. Charles' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyoko Johnson-Reeves, who scored three points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.
Laurel's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-3. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for St. Charles, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
