Custer County has gone 8-2 against Sidney recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cowboys will welcome the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Custer County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while Sidney will come in with three straight wins.
Custer County is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Billings Central Catholic on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Cowboys took a blow against the Rams, falling 49-22. The Cowboys were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-6.
Despite their loss, Custer County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Warren Venable, who threw for 208 yards and two TDs, and also punched in one score on the ground, was perhaps the best of all. Rylin Gentry was another key player, picking up 144 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, Sidney beat Dawson County 27-20 on Friday.
Sidney found their leader in sophomore Aaron Schmitz, who rushed for 180 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Schmitz is now averaging an impressive 109 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Gradin Sukut, who rushed for 141 yards.
Sidney was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 318 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 186 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Sidney's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Custer County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
The upcoming contest will be a clash of competing strengths. Custer County has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 295.2 passing yards per game. Sidney, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 250.2 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
