It's playoff time, and King had no trouble coming through when it counted. They had just enough and edged out the Summer Creek Bulldogs 24-21. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Dionne Sims continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 229 yards and three scores. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: King was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 252 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 223 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to King's defense and their eight sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Dominick Toulon and Omarion Smith, who racked up four sacks between them. Toulon is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last eight games he's played. Another thorn in Summer Creek's side was Damian Broussard, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Noah Spinks, who threw for 275 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Summer Creek's leading receiver Jamicah Jones was Spinks' top target yet again, picking up 147 receiving yards and one TD.
King's record is now 12-2. As for Summer Creek, with the loss, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-2.
Coming up, King will square off against Vandegrift at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Vipers' defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so the Panthers' offense will have their work cut out for them. Summer Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
