The East Rowan Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They suffered a tough 79-58 defeat at the hands of West Rowan. While losing is never fun, East Rowan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 531st, while the Falcons are ranked 177th).
East Rowan lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mason McKenzie, who scored 14 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McKenzie has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Drake Jones, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
It was another big night for Will Givens Jr., who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and four steals for West Rowan. Givens Jr. is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Kennedy, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
East Rowan has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season. As for West Rowan, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-7.
East Rowan's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. One thing working in Robinson's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches. West Rowan will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th.
