The Whitko Wildcats will square off against the Rochester Zebras at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Whitko comes in on three and Rochester on six.
Whitko proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Heritage 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted against the Patriots since May 16, 2015.
Cassidy Skinner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Skinner was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kaylee Adkins was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double. Isabelle Harman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Whitko lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Rochester made easy work of Northwestern on Wednesday and carried off a 13-1 win. The Zebras might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Bria Rensberger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Aubrey Wilson and Aubrey Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Wilson went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Miller got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. That's the most doubles Wilson has posted since back in March of 2024. Darah Strasser was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Rochester's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Whitko, their record now sits at 15-5.
Both Whitko and Rochester just can't seem to miss. The Wildcats have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Rochester struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
