The Monsignor Pace Spartans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 64-53 victory over St. Brendan. Given Monsignor Pace's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while St. Brendan is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Monsignor Pace's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alessandra Bonilla, who scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bonilla has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Catherine Guillaume, who scored 17 points along with two steals and two blocks.
When it comes to explaining why St. Brendan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaden Castro. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points. That was a full 41.5% of St. Brendan's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Vindigni, who scored 12 points.
The win was the fourth in a row for Monsignor Pace, bringing their record for this year to 14-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for St. Brendan, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monsignor Pace will take on Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. As for St. Brendan, they will head out on the road to take on Divine Savior Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Divine Savior Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 on Tuesday.
