The Shawnee Renegades will face off against the Cherokee Chiefs at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Shawnee 3.9, Cherokee 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Monday, Shawnee came up short against Eastern and fell 7-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Renegades in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.
Shawnee saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Ahrens, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Cherokee strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lenape, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chiefs have posted since April 23rd.
Cherokee also got a great performance from Joshua Litsky as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Litsky has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Brett Jackson was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jason Brown, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Cherokee pushed their record up to 18-0 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Shawnee, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Shawnee has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cherokee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
