California Military Institute (Perris, Calif.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 14 points, drop to eight before the final whistle blew on a 33-25 victory over
Rancho Christian (Temecula, Calif.).
The ROUGH RIDERS led 27-3 at halftime, but the Eagles recaptured the lead on a touchdown pass by
Preston Diehl to
Jacob Diaz with 10:00 to go in the third. California Military Institute finally took the lead for the win when
Shaunti Martin ran for a touchdown with 9:00 left in the third quarter.
CMI expanded its lead to 27 points entering the fourth quarter. The Perris school scored two times in the third, including once on a Martin touchdown run.
The result came as a big surprise as Rancho Christian came in ranked No. 959 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, while the ROUGH RIDERS were ranked No. 1025.
RC came in giving up 15.2 points per game this season. The Temecula school had a hard time against California Military Institute's offense, which entered the game scoring 19.6 points per game.
The loss comes after Rancho Christian defeated California School for the Deaf 41-0 last week. The loss ended Rancho Christian's three-game winning streak.
