For the first time this season, Santana will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will square off against the El Capitan Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Santana and Helix have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Sultans fell 7-4 to the Scotties.
Paityn Miller was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, El Capitan came into Wednesday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Otay Ranch last Wednesday as they made off with an 8-1 win. Considering the Vaqueros have won five games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mckenzie Passanisi made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cassidy Sterling, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Gabrielle Garcia also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Santana's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9-1. As for El Capitan, their record now sits at 8-6.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Santana hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like El Capitan struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Santana was able to grind out a solid victory over El Capitan when the teams last played back in May of 2025, winning 8-3. Will the Sultans repeat their success, or do the Vaqueros have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
