It was a good run, but the Choctawhatchee Indians unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 52-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Booker T. Washington. While losing is never fun, Choctawhatchee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Booker T. Washington is ranked sixth).
Choctawhatchee's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Diaris Morales, who scored 21 points, and Olivia Alexandre who scored 12 points along with three blocks. Morales scored a full 48.8% of Choctawhatchee's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Smith, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Choctawhatchee struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Booker T. Washington found their leader in underclassman Chamiah Francis, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. The match was Francis' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Mikerria Bonner was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Choctawhatchee's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-1. As for Booker T. Washington, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
Choctawhatchee will play host again and welcome Niceville, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Niceville is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games. As for Booker T. Washington, they will head out on the road to face off against Pace at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pace is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
