The Southern Indians will face off against the Beaver Local Beavers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Southern sitting on four straight wins and Beaver Local on seven.
While Southern's victory against Wellsville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Indians won by a run and slipped past the Tigers 12-11.
Addy Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Southern got a massive performance out of Raelea Carosiello, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Makenna Jones, who went 1-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Beaver Local made easy work of Buckeye Local on Saturday and carried off a 7-1 win. The Beavers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Addie Thurik made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 19 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI, and one run. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Tatum Duncan and Lora Reeder did most of the damage at the plate: Duncan went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Reeder went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Brenna Jones was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Beaver Local kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games.
Beaver Local pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Southern, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Southern was able to grind out a solid victory over Beaver Local in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, winning 7-2. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Beavers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
