Marist is 0-3 against Scappoose since March of 2023 but things could change on Saturday. The Spartans will take on the Indians at 12:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
While Marist's win against Elmira wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Falcons 10-9. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by just one run.
Tizita Martin was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Sophia Lydon, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Marist hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Scappoose put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let The Dalles get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.
Saige Casey made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Scappoose got a massive performance out of Sophia Bloyd, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Brooklyn Schmidt also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Marist's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.0 runs this season. As for Scappoose, their record is now 6-0.
Marist's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's game. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Scappoose, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Marist continue to outrun the ball?
Marist might still be hurting after the 19-1 loss they got from Scappoose in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
