Spring Valley is 1-9 against Sierra Vista since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will look to defend their home field against the Mountain Lions at 3:30 p.m. Spring Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Spring Valley barely beat Bonanza the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Grizzlies' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bengals a 16-0 shutout on Monday. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Bengals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Cheyenne Stephens-Davis made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Stephens-Davis was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Spring Valley got a massive performance out of Aubreyana Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Sanchez has posted since back in March of 2024. Isabella Lenahan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Spring Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They are 13-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Sierra Vista nor Doral Academy Red Rock made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Mountain Lions fell 5-0 to the Dragons. The shutout was out of character for the Mountain Lions seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
Reagan Foglia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
Sierra Vista's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-7. As for Spring Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 15-9.
Spring Valley's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Grizzlies have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Sierra Vista, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Spring Valley continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Spring Valley's way against Sierra Vista when the teams last played on April 11th, as Spring Valley made off with a 10-2 win. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Mountain Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
