Kayden Quiroz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aryana Munoz, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Sofia Prentice was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, JW North narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Hart 4-3.
JW North also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Anela Kinnevey gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Lily Hiraoka was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Angelina Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Western Christian pushed their record up to 15-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for JW North, their victory bumped their record up to 18-10.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Western Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like JW North struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Western Christian took their win against JW North when the teams last played back in June of 2021 by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
