The Jenkins Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell to Statesboro 59-54. Jenkins has not had much luck with Statesboro recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Jenkins saw an underclassman step up: Aniyah Browner scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Browner has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliyah Frazier, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Reya Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Statesboro, scoring 25 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Staten, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Jenkins' loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Statesboro, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
Jenkins will stay at home for another game and welcome Ware County at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Ware County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Jenkins in Georgia (Ware County is ranked 44th, while Jenkins is ranked 255th). As for Statesboro, they will head out on the road to challenge Bradwell Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bradwell Institute is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.1 points per game.
