The Buckeye Hawks entered their tilt with the Estrella Foothills Wolves with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Buckeye sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-60 victory over Estrella Foothills on Saturday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Buckeye's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Estrella Foothills is ranked 26th).
Buckeye can attribute much of their success to Kiria Avila escarcega, who scored 27 points along with seven assists. That's the first time this season that Avila escarcega scored 15 or more points. Isabel Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Buckeye is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Estrella Foothills, their loss dropped their record down to 18-3.
Buckeye will be playing at home against Copper Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Copper Canyon has insisted on making their lastfive contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-3 during that stretch of close contests. As for Estrella Foothills, they will head out on the road to take on Goldwater at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
