The Portsmouth Christian Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They took a hard 48-34 fall against Greenbrier Christian Academy. Portsmouth Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Greenbrier Christian Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Portsmouth Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Adrianna Reynolds. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Reynolds scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cloee Comberiati, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Portsmouth Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Greenbrier Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Julia Buchanan, who scored 14 points. Buchanan is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. Another player making a difference was Aryanna Buckley, who scored 12 points.
Portsmouth Christian dropped their record down to 2-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Portsmouth Christian will head out on the road to face off against Broadwater Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Broadwater Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Denbigh Baptist Christian at 5:30 p.m. Denbigh Baptist Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
