Baseball Recap: Magnolia Gets the Win

Magnolia hadn't beaten St. Marys on the road since April 1, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Blue Eagles walked away with a 14-10 win over the Blue Devils. This was a revenge game for the Blue Eagles: when they faced off against the Blue Devils back in March, they had to take a 13-4 defeat.

Finn Loy and Brayden Byers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Loy tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Byers pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. At bat, Loy got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Byers went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Loy is becoming a predictor of Magnolia's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't).

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Fluharty, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Fluharty is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another was Rydge Moffitt, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Magnolia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Magnolia's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for St. Marys, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Magnolia will venture away from home to take on Wirt County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Marys, they will head out to square off against Williamstown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
