Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 58-41 win over the Shelby Golden Lions. The Gryphons pushed the score to 45-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Golden Lions cut but never quite recovered from.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samara Jones led the charge by putting up 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Jones' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Twitty, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Despite the loss, Shelby still got an impressive performance from Dereon Kee, who went 9 of 21 on her way to 23 points and five rebounds. Kee continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Da'Mani French was another key player, scoring eight points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Shelby, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 12-7.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-3 victory against East Gaston on the 31st. Shelby has also already played their next match, a 45-30 win against Highland Tech on the 31st.
