With a playoff game on the line, Booker T. Washington rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Golden Hawks with a sharp 54-34 victory. The win was familiar territory for Booker T. Washington who now have three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Booker T. Washington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leroy Lee Jr, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Jahmal David, who scored 14 points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Westland Hialeah gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They breezed by Hialeah-Miami Lakes on the road to the tune of 51-23. Given Westland Hialeah's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while Hialeah-Miami Lakes is ranked 757th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westland Hialeah found their leader in underclassman Jahi Lopez, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Lopez continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tywon Jenkins, who scored 11 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Westland Hialeah used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Hialeah-Miami Lakes. And. The pair took full advantage of the opportunity: Jenkins scored 11 points along with six steals and five rebounds, while he scored four points.
Booker T. Washington has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. As for Westland Hialeah, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Booker T. Washington hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.5 points per game. However, it's not like Westland Hialeah struggles in that department as they've been averaging 55.3 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything went Booker T. Washington's way against Westland Hialeah in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as Booker T. Washington made off with a 56-35 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Booker T. Washington since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
