CARLSBAD, Calif. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Oceanside (Calif.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Pirates beat La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, Calif.) 56-0.
The Pirates were up 28-0 at the half after taking the lead on a
Thai Cottrell touchdown run in the first quarter.
Oceanside expanded its lead to 56 points entering the fourth quarter. OHS scored four times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
William Gulley.
The loss snapped the Mavericks' 5-game winning streak.
Gulley stood out for the Pirates in the win. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.
Oceanside went into the matchup giving up only 11.6 points per game. La Costa Canyon came in giving up 6.4 points per game this season. LCC struggled against OHS's offense, which entered the game scoring 38.5 points per game.
The Pirates got revenge for last year's 21-16 loss to the Carlsbad school with the victory.
The loss comes after La Costa Canyon defeated Vista 21-0 last week.
La Costa Canyon (7-2) will play a non-conference game against Torrey Pines next week, while Oceanside (8-1) will take on El Camino in a Avocado - West game.
