The Northwestern Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Laurel Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northwestern is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
Last Thursday, Northwestern was beaten by Wise 77-42. While losing is never fun, Northwestern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Wise is ranked 44th).
Even though Laurel has not done well against Eleanor Roosevelt recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Laurel walked away with a 70-58 win over Eleanor Roosevelt. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Laurel to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jermaine Taylor, who scored 26 points. Taylor is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Gilbert Osafo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Northwestern has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Laurel, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-4.
Northwestern took a serious blow against Laurel when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 55-26. Will Northwestern have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
